The MTB wheels are specifically designed to handle the unique demands of mountain biking.

From aggressive downhill riding to cross-country trails, we ensure our wheels perform reliably in a variety of conditions, delivering maximum performance, control, and durability.

FRONT AND REAR SPECIFIC:

OPTIMIZED FOR DIFFERENT FORCES

Each wheel has a different job to do and experiences different forces. OQUO wheels use front and rear specific designs, that means considering rim profiles, spokes and build specifications carefully to maximise performance. It is more work but the benifits are clear.

RIGIDITY

Front wheels need to track the ground efficiently to find the most grip possible. A lower rim profile with a narrower bead adds a touch of compliance, maximizing grip and control. The rear wheel uses a higher rim profile with wider beads, increasing rigidity, improving performance in the roughest, fastest sections, and adding strength for the biggest impacts.

TYRE PROFILE

Typically in gravity riding, front tires are wider and run at lower pressures, increasing traction for the corners. Rear tires are run at higher pressures and are narrower to decrease rolling resistance. Mountain Control wheels offer front and rear-specific widths to optimize the profiles for the different tire widths and pressures. The wider rim on the front gives a more stable tire profile, increasing predictability at the limits of grip, especially with lower tire pressures. The narrower rear rim suits a slightly narrower tire.

FEWER SPOKES. ENHANCED GRIP

More spokes give a stronger, stiffer wheel, but at the cost of weight, comfort and compliance. Many of the front wheels use fewer spokes to reduce weight, help with compliance, and optimize grip.

Our rims are built to endure tough conditions while maintaining consistent performance over time. The wheels are rigorously tested, both in the laboratory and in the real world, working with our professional teams and in-house testers to push them to the extreme, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and durability.

ASYMMETRIC RIMS

Asymmetric rims provide a more triangular spoke pattern, balancing spoke lengths and tensions across the wheel. This results in a stronger, more reliable wheel, as each spoke takes an equal amount of strain. Asymmetric rims reduce the number of spoke sizes required, making for a more efficient and durable build.

IMPROVED TRIANGULATION

Symmetrical structures are stronger. This is a well-known fact. By offsetting the rim from the spoke holes, we offer a more symmetrical wheel, with the spokes forming an equal triangle. This balance provides more rigidity without adding weight.

EQUALIZE SPOKE TENSIONS

Offset rims allow us to balance the spoke tensions on either side of the wheel. This balance of the tensions means that some spokes aren't taking more strain than others, meaning the forces through the wheel are more equally shared, and the result is a stronger, more reliable wheel.

ENDURO CARBON TUNE

You can find our Enduro Carbon Tune on MC carbon wheels. These wheels are designed for the intense abuse of the enduro race course and strength is more important than weight because a broken wheel could end a rider's race weekend.

Tuning the carbon layup and using shorter, aligned fibers gives a wheel that is 40% stronger in our tests, ideal for the most aggressive riders or the roughest tracks.

SECURE NIPPLE LOCK

We apply a custom threadlock liquid to each nipple individually, which increases friction between the spoke and nipple threads. This prevents the spokes from losing tension over time while still allowing for adjustments if needed, ensuring consistent wheel performance.
